How To Prevent Electrical Fires In Your Kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of the home- but it's also one of the top places where electrical fires start . Between appliances , outlets ,and constant use, small mistakes can lead to big hazards.

Watch out for overloaded outlets. Appliances like microwaves, coffee makers , and toasters draw a lot of power.Avoid plugging too many into one outlet or power strips.

Inspect small appliances. Check cords on mixers, blenders, and toasters regularly. If they're frayed , cracked, or sparking , replace them immediately.

Keep appliances dry. Never use appliances with wet hands or near sinks. Water and electricity can create shock risks and fires.

Use the right outlets. Your kitchen should have GFCI outlets installed near sinks and counters. They shut off instantly if water and electricity meets.

Don't ignore flickering or tripping. If lights flicker when you turn on appliances , or breakers trip often, it's a warning your kitchen circuit is overloaded or unsafe.

Turn off and unplug after use. Small appliances should be unplugged when not in use- especially high-heat ones like toasters or air fryers.

Keep heat away from cords. Don't let cords dangle over stove tops or rest against hot surfaces. Heat can melt insulation and spark fires.

Upgrade when needed. If your kitchen wiring is outdated , it may not support modern appliances. An electrical upgrade can prevent dangerous overloads.
